The Price of Clarity

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the term Moment of Clarity as “a time when a person suddenly understands something.” It certainly is a comforting concept that someone could suddenly understand something which had hitherto been elusive, especially when that something is obvious.

As dissidents, we have a set of complaints that amounts to an understanding of many things. That’s because we can utilize these complaints to explain these things in a systemic fashion and make predictions of more things about which we will be complaining.

Many of us also struggle with a sense of exasperation. To use an analogy, we’re standing on the edge of a tall building with a group of imbeciles who’ve been conned into believing that gravity doesn’t exist and are thus intent on flinging themselves off. After realizing they won’t be dissuaded, we settle for “alright, have fun with that but please let go of me.” They insist that’s not going to happen, and a glance down imparts the dreadful realization that death may not be guaranteed on impact.

Good thing he supported BLM!

Once you’ve been at this long enough or experienced sufficient consequences, this sort of sentiment is going to start bouncing around your head. It’s as useless as it is irrelevant so you’ll just have to get past it.

I believe schadenfreude to be an unchristian sentiment, but I find it impossible to repress and I must admit that it helps sustain me through those days when I wonder if all will come to naught. I once mused about quitting my profession and starting a “consequences consulting firm” to provide such people with moments of clarity for an exorbitant fee because that would be much cheaper than paying with their lives.

Tried to block exports of riot gear to the USA.

Still, I find myself speculating about what a life is worth. In its final horrific moments, is it enough to complete the transaction? Did Mr. MP ultimately realize it was wrong to endorse a campaign of murder on behalf of black lives when a black life burst into the church to murder him?

I really hope Saint Peter is up there at the Pearly Gates jingling those keys around, asking folks “So you want in, huh? Tell me how the evil you supported led directly to your death.” Perhaps the question is raised in a more sulfuric environment.

I’m not sure where I’m going with this one, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that I need for there to be a final moment of clarity for these people who’ve been utilized to destroy the world. I’ll cut this off before it gets any darker.
