Duty is in Our Blood

Vacations are a fantastic time for my family; we don’t take many of them, but when we do, we go big! A budget on these excursions is more like the pirate code: just a guideline. What’s the point of going if you’re only worrying about every Jefferson or Washington spent? And speaking of those noble Virginians, our trip transported us into the past, the past in which both of these humble farmers became mythological.

I’ve written a great deal for Identity Dixie about the need for mythical figures to arise within our ranks, and I am positive God is raising those men up, just as he did with these two farmers. Of course, they were much more than farmers. Between the two, cumulatively, they were statesmen, authors, philosophers, inventors, warriors, architects, astronomers, and scientists. Both were good fathers to their children, biological or otherwise, and by all accounts loved their wives with great devotion.

But that which transforms ordinary men into mythical figures are deeds. For you see, brothers and sisters, what men do, especially in unsettled times, defines greatness. Both Washington and Jefferson rose to the occasion when their people needed them, and both surrendered power when those specific needs subsided. Washington reluctantly rose from farmer to commanding General of the Continental Army. He could have become a king, but he served a fledgling nation humbly as an elected executive with limited powers. Jefferson, arguably the personification of the Renaissance man, used his mind, written words, and his unique power of persuasion to aid in the formation of the liberties we once enjoyed and will one day enjoy again.

Because of their sacrifices, my family had the opportunity to walk where they walked, not only the plantations they managed, but the cobblestones of Williamsburg, Yorktown battlefield, and the pioneer settlement at Jamestown. To say the least, we were immersed in our Anglo traditions, and it was fantastic! I would encourage everyone to take a trip and teach yourself and your family our colonial history.

Though, in the midst of my colonial immersion, I was reminded of the heartbreak so many of our people in Appalachia are currently facing. One of the beautiful historical re-enactors almost broke into tears when I brought up the devastation of Helene because, for her, it was not history past but history present. Her relations had taken the brunt of the flooding, and communication with some of them was nonexistent. That’s how history arrives, right at your doorstep, right through the streets of your little town, just as history arrived in the little port of Yorktown, and where Washington emerged mythological.

Right now, heroes are being made again. A deaf Imperial government has neglected the needs of the people it has sworn to protect. Instead of protecting, it has squandered the treasury on endless foreign wars and a relentless invasion of foreigners into our lands.

And such a betrayal has not gone unnoticed, as our people are rising to the challenge and aiding our kin, with or without government help. This is what we’re about! Even now, brave men are flying aircraft into dangerous situations to save their people, and my brothers are taking support by all-terrain vehicles. Pack animals, especially mules, which George Washington was instrumental in breeding centuries ago, are hard at work, taking supplies to unreachable areas that have been devastated by walls of water. These deeds will be the deeds of legend. These brave Southerners will become mythological saviors to the people whose lives they touch.

We are not beggars. If the federal government gets in the way of us helping our people, the next path will be the same as our ancestors. Colonial or antebellum, no force on earth will stop us.
