Gratuitous Self-Righteous Indignation

The coronavirus has produced a wide variety of reactions in the United States as people attempt to deal with the potential of a life-shattering illness infecting their community and loved ones.  Some of those reactions are natural, such as concern, fear, and panic.  Others, however, are quite unnatural, and indeed artificial.  One of the most prominent responses in the Twitter era has been gratuitous self-righteous indignation.

In a cursory browse through social media at the height of the epidemic one could see numerous statuses, updates, tweets, and pictures commanding “STAY HOME!”  “STAY HOME! IT SAVES LIVES!” And to demonstrate the full self-righteous indignation, “STAY THE F— HOME!” This scolding to others, unnamed, and unknown individuals over suggestions by the CDC gives the individual a sense of self-importance and righteousness.  They are the ones who are on the side of right.  They are the ones who are truly moral.  They are the ones who are concerned with the health of others.  By chiding the ether of the internet with vitriolic indignation, they demonstrate that they have moral superiority, especially if they use foul language to do it.

This self-righteous indignation is strikingly reminiscent whenever these same people deem something to be “racist,” “sexist” or “homophobic.”  These same people who are trying to scold the internet for not staying at home are the same people who react with horror at anything resembling “racism.” They are the same people who try to convey their love for feminism, and hatred for anything “sexist.” And, they are the same people who try to demonstrate how tolerant they are of deviant sexual behavior.

This self-righteous preening and posturing is a vain attempt to exalt oneself at another’s expense.  It is an attempt to gain the moral high ground by first calling someone a name, or calling them out for immoral behavior.  In many ways, the first person to do this with others is the winner, because then the other person is put on the defensive.  Indeed, in the modern era it is such an effective method of exalting oneself that so-called “conservatives” have started doing it (unsuccessfully) in order to gain the moral high ground in the culture war (“Dems are the real racists!”).

But the problem with the moral indignation shown with the coronavirus is that it is completely artificial.  It is extremely unlikely that those chiding “STAY THE F— HOME!!” are speaking to anyone specific.  They simply have been told by their superiors in the media and in the schools and in pop culture that this is a moral obligation, and so therefore they must display their morality by placing this badge upon their social media profile.  This is not something in the moral law that they know is true by nature.  Rather, it is something that has been forced upon them by the elites, and they unwittingly go along with it with all the vehemence that they can muster.

Classy

The truth is that by natural law and true Christian morality, we know that we must seek to guard the weakest among us in order that they might not get ill and succumb to this virus.  We know how to cherish our loved ones, and we know how to revere our fathers and mothers.  These are not things that we need to be told to do.  The actual practice of keeping them safe may require some more medical knowledge, but there are few who are unwilling to do what is necessary to protect their loved ones.  Yelling “STAY HOME!” to the internet is an artificial response of self-righteous indignation that goes beyond any real care and concern for others, and instead is centered upon oneself.

How much more is this artificiality true of the modern concerns of “racism”, “sexism” and “homophobia”!  These are artificial moral concerns foisted upon us by elites in government, academia, and popular culture.  They are not true moral issues based upon the natural law of God, but are completely man made.  And this fact is confirmed by how vehemently they must be pushed upon us again and again.  Normal Christian morality, based in the natural law and Scripture, does not seek to treat women or other races poorly.  Rather it seeks to protect one’s kindred, and to promote Biblical Patriarchy, in which men and women truly flourish.  And Christian concerns about homosexuality are rooted in the care and concern for the homosexual individual and their eternal soul, as well as the souls of others who may be exposed to such vile behavior.  But the push against “racism”, “sexism” and “homophobia” is completely artificial, and intended to destroy the divinely instituted natural order.

The point here is that Christian morality needs none of the artificiality of concerns over “racism” “sexism” and “homophobia” anymore than it needs the artificiality of the coronavirus.  The morality of Scripture allows us to truly love our people and respect others without being concerned with a mythical sin of “racism.”  True Christian morality is genuinely concerned with love for our brethren, not with puffing ourselves up so that we seem morally upright to those around us.  We should reject the artificial hysteria driven by the media and the elites, and seek instead to cultivate a concern for the ethic laid down in Sacred Scripture by our Lord Himself: that of truly loving others.

  1. There’s no doubt as to which parts of the country that these sentiments arise in.

It’s part and parcel of the profound mental, psychological, cultural and ideological differences between them and the South and Interior West. What they derisively call “flyover Country.”

This is more than proof enough for the necessity, in every way possible, of separation from them.

  2. Some of those reactions are natural, such as … panic.

I disagree that panic is a natural reaction to coronavirus, or, more specifically, to COVID-19. It’s debatable whether panic is a natural reaction to the manufacture (by government and media) of a crisis, but even modern dictionaries use words like “hysterical,” “irrational,” “frantic” and so on to describe what panic is, manufactured or otherwise. The panicky among us possess a bent towards hysterics. It isn’t a natural bent, however; it was instilled in them during their formative years in most cases, and was further developed in them as they got older. I could give you many many examples of what I’m talking about but for brevity’s sake I’ll mention one:

Years ago a young man worked for me who had been instilled with an unnatural fear of dehydration. This condition of his was so far developed in him (mainly by his mother) at the time that it had become something of a phobia, which of course is irrational fear of a thing by definition. It was so bad with this particular individual that he would become deathly afraid of dehydrating from simply working up a small sweat. Indeed, sweating, to him, meant nothing more nor less than the onset of dehydration, and he could never satisfy himself that he’d drank enough water to offset or counter the sweating. He would quite literally waterlog himself to the point of throwing it all back up. Which of course made things worse, never better.

Well, anyway, the persons who are panicking over this thing are, in many many cases, the same persons who require “safe spaces” at our colleges and universities, and now at their places of employment, if in fact they are functional enough to be gainfully employed. When I was in the military it was becoming a “thing” to protect us all against the mere possibility (as opposed to the probability) of “heat exhaustion” and that sort of thing. At the time it was laughable to most of us because we knew it was manufactured (institutional) hysterics in the first place, but it was a good excuse for getting out of work at times too. And don’t think for a minute some of us didn’t take full advantage of that aspect either.

But in any case, books have been written about the innate irrationality of the mob and mob mentality. And that’s really all we’re seeing here. It is why Democracy is the dumbest form of government ever devised by the overactive imagination of man.

  3. I would say that this virtue signalling is present in our own midst, unfortunately, and not a phenomenon peculiar to Yanks and Urban Swpl’s, as the commenter above implies.

It has been my misfortune to notice that the author of “Occidental Dissent”, a guy I have had a great respect for, has lapsed into unmitigated faggotry over this coronavirus thing.

In his continued zealous self praise about having been one of the first to declare that Orange Man Bad, something else he has latched onto like a negro onto a pair of air jordans, he has extended his self righteous behavior into contempt for the working people suffering from the economic impact of this thing, which wasn’t of their making.

There is now no pro Southern, or White Positive content being generated on the blog. The comment section is full of fed posters and pagans, and they are tolerated knowingly.

The self righteousness present there is subtle, but palpable and hard to put my finger on. Hunter is right about the virus, as he was about the Donald. But his insistence on rubbing everyone’s face in it, which is increasingly being extended to Unz.com with regular postings there too about it, is increasingly smelling of self promotion and the afore mentioned faggotousness.

Nowhere on his site has there been any real acknowledgment of the real economic cost to our folks by his prescription for dealing with the virus (the lockdown policy), and no compassion is present in his language, only schadenfreude at the conspiracy theory’s proliferating as rationalizations and copes among the people struggling to understand why their lives have been overturned because of the pandemic that is largely only out of control in the major urban areas.

He seems not to understand what its like to really struggle financially. Maybe he has been living too comfortably off of D’nations, and has become insulated from reality. Who knows. Maybe he is just like every other blogger seems to be, a slave to pageviews, and see’s his pyrrhic “victory” at having called the Donald Question as evidence of his imminent ascendancy from obscurity if only he can grind that axe hard enough to turn it into clicks.

In any case the graceless and hubristic persistence with which the subject is being pursued seems just like what the author of this article describes. And it is above all, tacky.

  4. I don’t presume to know what is “Hunter Wallace’s” chief motivation in all of this, but whatever it is your terms “hubris” and “faggotry” definitely apply. Wallace falls within that category of folk Z-Man pegged a couple weeks back, here: http://thezman.com/wordpress/?p=20240

    Money quote:

Then there are the people who fell for the hype and then piously lectured the rest of us about how the virus was more important than the economy. Many of these people claimed to be on this side of the great divide. They had lectured for years about how the media can never be trusted. Then they swallowed the official line on the virus like good little boys and girls. The internet never forgets, so they will be reminded of this for the remainder of their days, especially on this side of the divide.

It’s not so much that they were wrong or acted like smug bleeps. It’s that they revealed themselves to be every bit as out of touch as the mass media. This was just another game for them to play on-line, like their politics. Their clapping for the lay-offs and business closures revealed that they have no skin in the game. It is a good reminder to never take business advice from someone who has never signed the front of a paycheck and never take political advice from people without jobs.

    1. Occidental Dissent is done. Anyone who believes that Covid actually exists is part of the Beast system.

For people who love science so much, they never verify or scrutinize extraordinary claims. Fauci threw out 2.2 million deaths in the U.S. alone. Even with the totally dishonest death reporting and pathology guidelines they can only come up with 70,000.

But, the worst and most damnable lie is that they never mention precisely what Covid-19 actually is. Is it a Coronavirus or Influenza? When they say SARs, that would mean this is avian influenza. But, influenza isn’t a coronavirus. And if it came from bats it would mean it is a rodent based virus. But rodents are far more likely to carry hantavirus.

Just like all liars, when pressed for specific details, the lie begins to amplify and the story starts to change. Anyone who believes known liars is either a fool or a liar themself.

      1. It isn’t what the media sells it as, but it surely exists. It’s just part of what had been the annual “pandemic” of respiratory virus crud. But as technology advanced and financial derealization exploded, a pretext was needed to pop the bubbles. And so one of the nastier bugs in this year’s crop was picked and the world is being forcefed asian cultural norms on handling respiratory crud viruses whether they want them or not.

    2. I don’t like to speculate overly much on people’s motivations, beyond stating those that their actions make plain.

Though, I am learning to trust my instinct when something doesn’t feel right, even if I can’t put my finger on it.

Far be it from me to slander Hunter Wallace. But pretty much everything on that site sticks in my craw.

There are already too few strong willed white guys left, and we all of us can go astray.

With any luck HW gets his head screwed back on straight.

Still, it makes me feel a bit better about it to know I’m not alone in having noticed the change in that blog.

  5. I found myself in Amazon Foods the other day – and I was literally the only man without a mask. I say man, because, whoever the hive mind was that peopled that store were more biological automaton than man.

Personally, I’ve taken biology, microbiology, and anatomy & physiology. All of the core curriculum for a pre-med degree. No one has yet had the stones to call me out for not wearing a mask, least of all some idiot Instagram whore.

The stay home mantra is virtue signalling with an utterly evil ulterior motive. I take every chance I get to shit on and abuse the mentality of all Apparatchiks who sing this control chorus.

Ideologically I am at war with these people. Calling someone a fucking idiot who doesn’t understand anything about Koch’s Postulate is how you fight this. They made their God atheistic and sterile science. Now they have to defend it. Covid doesn’t exist, there is no mention of any “patient zero.” Nor any pathogen that was specifically isolated and regrown in pure culture. Fucking lying scumbags.
