I can vividly recall when the DC Snipers were terrorizing Virginia. The violence drove people into a real state of paranoia. Covid-19 is one thing, but not knowing if you’re going to eat a round while pumping gas or getting into your car outside a fast food restaurant is something else entirely.
My black classmates were all convinced that the killer was white, which most of the white students, myself included, agreed. This wasn’t long after the Columbine massacre, so everybody pretty much assumed back then that anyone willing to do anything this crazy had to be white.
Black people, by contrast, would shoot each other dead over trivial matters such as sneakers, which was what had actually happened to one our classmates. The term “classmate” should not imply that he participated in learning academic material at the school.
Anyways, spree killing random strangers didn’t seem to fit their MO. That was some Ted Kaczynski white guy-type stuff. The announcement that two black killers had been apprehended caused a great deal of consternation among them. 2002 was a gentler, simpler time.
Fast forward to 2020, and the last thing I would have expected back then was for the younger of the pair, Lee Boyd Malvo, to be marrying anyone. At age 17, he couldn’t be executed despite confessing to 17 murders. It was life behind bars instead. This hasn’t stopped him from marrying a white lady from Iowa while incarcerated for life at Red Onion State Prison.
Let’s run through a checklist on this wacky broad:
-Distinguished family
-Huge trust fund
-“rails against income inequality”
-Crazed BLM activist
-Arrested numerous times
-“writer”
Yep, so it’s not a surprise that she found a black spree killer who’s imprisoned for life more attractive than a guy from her local country club. She’s 30 now. A few years down the line when she regrets these choices it’s going to be very difficult for her to salvage a life with someone else.
Her future appears rather dim, but at least her trust fund will ensure that she never comes up short on money to pay for Xanax. The boxed wine to which the more economically challenged cat ladies must resort for solace will never foul her palate.
Apparently, women becoming infatuated with men incarnated for appalling crimes has always been a thing. An aging Charlie Manson attracted himself a young bride. Ted Bundy had one of the most horrific killing sprees in history, and he managed to marry a woman and impregnate her while on death row. The deranged Parkland High School shooter Nikolas Cruz has been inundated with love letters in jail.
This would lead one to suspect that this aspect of female psychology is what led societies the world over to require a potential suitor to seek the permission of a woman’s father before interacting with her, let alone getting married. The instinct to seek out a young, innocent, sweet-tempered virgin for marriage probably has always meant that there’s less screening required from the male end of this match making process.
I’ve never heard a guy tell me he wants to find himself “a bad girl” to fall in love with. If a man seeks a relationship with a bad girl, all he needs to do is pay her and then be on his way. It’s simply not the same attraction when the roles are reversed. The French imported lots of bad girls from the Paris jails for marriage in Louisiana, and even the thirsty Frenchman living like savages didn’t want to marry them.
But, then again, we’re all equal. The fact that none of the behaviors and outcomes we observe all around us comport with this not-so-timeless principle somehow doesn’t serve to invalidate it. In this sense, it’s more powerful than gravity, seeing as no one would believe in gravity if things didn’t fall out of the sky.

I’m not as sanguine as you apparently are, Mr. Shackleford, that this woman will ever come to a place where she actually regrets having succumbed to her gender’s worst stereotypical instincts. My experience is that a few of them do, but the majority never come to that place. Not permanently anyway. In better times, and in certain areas of the country, such an one would have been described as an “abandoned woman.” Which is to say that she would have been left to stew in her own self-created misery until such time that she came to her ‘better senses.’ Sometimes it’s the only way.
I’ve noted before that even Hollywood ‘gets it right’ now and again. If you’ve ever seen the 80s t.v. series North and South, you see in the character of radical abolitionist, Virgilia Hazard (played by Kristie Alley – perfect casting! – a certifiable lunatic playing a certifiable lunatic), the very personification of the type you describe in the post. When I first watched that series years ago, my impression was that Alley “overplayed the role”; whereas now I know she played the role perfectly.

May I offer a friendly piece of advice?
The next time you write this (or something similar) out, consider adding in a few well-placed paragraph breaks. You’ll have to trust me on this, but doing so will make it much less taxing for the intended audience/readership to consume your points and internalize the concepts.
You wrote (or implied) that whether or not any of this is “unfair to women” is beside the point. Your point is correct, and there is a reason it is correct.
Civilized societies, as such, don’t concern themselves with whether or not a specific demographic is fairly treated or not on the broad scale. The most important thing is whether or not the whole of the (civilized) society functions well. On a smaller, familial scale, I don’t care one way or the other whether or not my wife (or one of my daughters, for that matter) feels like she is being “unfairly” treated. What matters most is that our family remains intact and functions like,… well, like a functional (as opposed to a dysfunctional) family.
