College in a Free Dixie

When Dixie is free, one of the areas where the most drastic reforms will take place is in higher education. The takeover of colleges and universities by the Left has been, perhaps, the biggest reason we find ourselves in our current predicament. Think of any progressive idea, one that would have been marginalized ten or even five years ago, and you will find that it has been festering in colleges and universities for years (before exploding into the mainstream). For example, the attacks on the Founding Fathers, promoting transgenderism, the concept of White privilege, and dismantling the “patriarchy” all immediately come to mind as corrosive leftist concepts that brewed within academia.

Still, one of the biggest mistakes the Right continues to make is the assumption that this leftist takeover is inherent in the college and university system. This is simply not the case, and I think this attitude has eased the Left’s conquest of them, which has allowed them undue cultural influence. In many ways, this is new.

Up until at least World War I, the Right tended to control the education system. Remember, Marx was an independent scholar, not working for a university but rather living off of Engle’s charity. German universities, in particular, were infamous for being bastions for rightwing, nationalist thought. Southern universities were also once known for being far more conservative than their counterparts in the rest of the United States – see how comparably quieter Dixian schools were during the upheaval of the 1960s. Wrestling control of colleges and universities from the Left is paramount to the long-term survival of a Free Dixie.

I have outlined several proposals to help restore sanity in Southern academia.

Not Everyone Goes

The idea that everyone goes to college, for any reason, is very much a new idea and it must be destroyed in a Free Dixie. Currently, colleges have been turned into glorified high schools, a place to forgo adult responsibilities for a few more years. This is why remedial math and English have taken the place of Greek and Latin. In a Free Dixie, this ends. Full stop.

In a Free Dixie, if a high school graduate has serious plans to be a doctor, lawyer, historian, or engage in some other academic profession, then college is a viable route for them. Getting drunk, accruing massive debt, and provided with limited professional skills? No, that’s not happening. College is not for everyone, there will be better and more productive alternatives for Southern high school graduates.

This would also mean the South would have higher academic standards. Dixie would be an academic powerhouse, and the “Kudzu League” would replace the Ivy League as the best of the best in advanced education. Meanwhile, the Ivy League schools can continue to plummet down the rabbit hole of increased leftist insanity.

Of course, trade schools would be widely promoted as well, giving those who do not attend college a chance to better themselves professionally.

Academic Rigor is Restored

In a Free Dixie, colleges will focus on the classic fields – science, engineering, history, theology, philosophy, government, language, and so on. “Gender Studies” will be removed, as well as, any of the other progressive facsimiles pretending to be serious academic study. They lack rigor, rely on emotion, and are easily fooled (see the Sokal Hoax).

More importantly, they are the nest by which the Left incubates ideas and then unleashes them into traditional fields (then society at large). As has already been mentioned, almost every bit of leftist lunacy that has seeped into the mainstream culture has started in academia. More to the point, they began in some marginalized program before spreading like a tumor. At the time, the Right was told that they were just isolated kooks that no one took seriously, so it was best to ignore them. Today, the Right is paying for ignoring them.

When we are free, they will be gone. Cutting the Left off from academia, their major vehicle for subverting society, is paramount for a Free Dixie.

Clothes Make the Man

College students have become notorious for dressing like slobs (for men) and prostitutes (for women) – look at the shorts, flip-flops, t-shirts, ratty jackets, short skirts, tank tops, and so on. It creates an impression, and with good reason, of a people that are not serious about learning. This is also new.

Look at pictures of college students in the 1950s and a completely different world will emerge – students with long pants, a belt, leather shoes, a tie, and often a jacket. This creates a picture of a student body that takes learning seriously, and I strongly believe that serious places require serous attire. This is why no man would be caught dead in church not wearing a suit and tie in the 1950s and much of the 1960s.

In a Free Dixie, all men will be required to attend class in at least a collared shirt, closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a belt. A tie will be strongly encouraged. Women will be expected to dress modestly. Violators will not be allowed to attend class until they are properly dressed.

Sports in their Proper Place

I love sports and have very little patience for “edgelord” rightwingers who indiscriminately hate sports. Sports are a good thing, with a long standing and important place in Western civilization. However, any good idea can be taken too far, and the place of sports on the college campus of a modern Southern school is a great example of this.

In a Free Dixie, we must remember that the “student” comes first in “student athlete.” As such, student athletes will be expected to have high academic standards. No more giving someone, who can barely read, a slot in college because their good at football. To do so, is unfair to everyone. Behavioral standards will also be strictly enforced. Far too often have very serious crimes been swept under the rug by short-sighted coaches because they were worried about the game next Saturday. As we very well know, this has included both domestic violence and even rape. In order to be hired as a coach in Free Dixie, one must agree to uphold moral standards, and those coaches found violating this principle will be barred from coaching for a number of years, the exact amount depending upon the seriousness of the offense.    

There is no reason a Free Dixie cannot seriously reform her college system. Our current decline is not inherent in the university system. The West has had universities for centuries before this happened, and this lasted until at least the Great War, and in many cases until the 1960s (and most Southern schools held out until the 1990s).

Reclaiming our Southern colleges and universities can transform Dixie into a beacon of traditional Western education, something that will be particularly important as the rest of the West declines.

Think about a future where Dixie is a powerhouse of academia. Such a world is possible. Reforming higher education in the South will be a major priority in a Free Dixie.
