The Overton Window, Shifted

The world is finally moving further toward the cultural Right. Is it happening as fast as we would like? Not at all. But recently, conversations from within the political Left regarding underage trans students is an indication that even the political Left sees the writing on the wall. The trans agenda has essentially caused antipathy, if not outright hostility, toward all things LGBT. We somewhat saw that with the Bud Light and Target controversies. But even political parties are beginning to shift. Consider the German AfD and the Republican Party.

The Republicans are barely rightwing. They are more milquetoast anti-taxation advocates. But the GOP cannot escape its de facto role as the “rightwing” party, even when they fight their own constituents. The party platform has become more openly Christian, albeit via the oxymoronic “Judeo-Christian” variant.

Regarding the AfD, it is a little more complicated. Unlike the United States, which has no excuse for any form of apologist leanings on the Right, post-war Germany has been a study in how to dismantle and destroy a once proud nation. The AfD is a step in a new direction.

As it pertains to the lesbian at the head of the AfD, Alice Weidel, it is important to note that the Alternative für Deutschland’s political positions are fairly robust and rightwing, even if their leader is clearly a sexual degenerate. This is a huge step forward for Germany, not least of which is due to the fact that many of the leadership, including Weidel, have some form of lineal connection to the NSDAP (example: Wiedel’s grandfather was an NSDAP judge personally chosen by Hitler). Shaking off the shackles of Germany’s imposed shame culture is critical to its revival. It will take them time to get beyond the acceptance of sexual abnormalities.

That stated, it is also important to note just how far the American political Right has thankfully gotten. What was once a predominantly socially libertarian movement in 2016 has grown more conservative as exhaustion with the constant LGBT drum has been beaten. No one wants yet another gratuitous gay character in a movie, let alone boys competing with their daughters on a soccer field.

In 2016, Trump famously used the false rainbow flag as a political prop. In 2024, he mostly avoided the topic – despite the fact that two of his most important aides are flamboyant homosexuals (Treasury Secretary Bessent and Presidential Special Missions Envoy Grenell). The reaction of the USAID workers is an example of the perceived change. That which seems like common sense to most of us – do not post political or social imagery on your office walls – was telling as to the general shift of zeitgeist. They reportedly all raced to take down LGBT flags and imagery as DOGE inspectors arrived at the USAID offices.

Things are changing. For how long, no one knows. But the global recognition that race and culture matters is finally taking root in the libertine West. There is no such thing as magic dirt. An Hispanic migrant will not suddenly become a “good American” because he crossed the Rio Grande. Nor, for that matter, will an Afghan become a good German once he crosses the Bavarian Alps. A lot of this recognition began with the first domino to fall: the global gay agenda.

As well-intentioned patriotic Americans, Germans, and/or Anglos sought fellow dissident voices regarding the transgender insanity, they were exposed to additional ideas on governance, societal norms, and national preservation. A trickle of anti-trans information morphed into a broader movement. Drip by drip, the LGBT political machine forced normal people to seek alternatives to the madness. We should keep welcoming dissident thought refugees and encourage them to see connections they may not fully be ready to accept.

  1. I’ve been steadily drifting rightward… or more like steadily realizing how conservative my liberalism was. No true liberal ever walks around thinking ‘no king but King Jesus!” with a goofy smile on her face, but I have for years. I live that prayer out in ways most people who think they’re conservative do, but it’s essentially an extremely conservative idea which now has become something of a prayer.

Anyway, I’ve been contemplating sending you all a list of questions. Some days I imagine it as prep for an interview like I did long ago as a journalist. Would you all be willing to answer pesky questions from a pesky female? Not for publication, just for my education. Just for dear Mr. Morris’ sake, I’ll leave female suffrage out of it.
