If someone paid me to “create space, policy, and practices that support the inclusion and retention of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC)” I’d immediately get started on the blueprints for a prison because it seems like the only thing this polite euphemism could be describing. However, I’m not diverse enough for the job so it really doesn’t matter:
Still, it’s fun to speculate. Is it supposed to be inspired by their traditional architecture? That would be tough since a traditional African architect would lose to a beaver in a competition and traditional brown architecture consisted mainly of stacking stone blocks into pyramids so that horrific human sacrifices could be performed at the top. When I think of indigenous architecture, the first thing that comes to mind is a dilapidated trailer on a reservation. Perhaps my lack of diversity constrains my thinking on this matter.
The position is part of a program called “Design Justice”, here’s the mission statement:
Our mission is to create anti-racist design approaches through cross-collaboration. Our vision for design justice centers on intentional community relationships that support anti-racist culture shifts, decolonized pedagogy, and the liberation of historically underinvested communities within design academia and industry.
It’s a pretty elaborate way of declaring they intend to do nothing of any practical utility whatsoever so go ahead kids, get a student loan. It’s part of a trend where big time bucks are being earmarked to address the racism built into structures, which it should be noted, is different from structural racism. However, according to the New England Journal of Medicine, the placement of these structures would be an element of structural racism and that’s why redlining in the 1930’s is bad for black peoples’ health today.
Despite being rather complicated, the racism of structures is a narrative that offers its adherents a great deal of explanatory value. For example, they believe that lead paint is the reason why Baltimore became a derelict warzone.
This form of racism also applies to roads. Earlier in the year, I covered an academic who believes black communities are constrained by these racist roads. The Biden Administration agrees. The furtive homosexual Secretary of Transportation recently announced he intends to spend billions to fix the issue.
It seems to me a much cheaper way to placate these people would be to hire some indigenous witch doctors to exorcise the racism from structures like a priest might do with a haunted house. They’d show up, do some chanting and then smoke a peace pipe or something to celebrate that the racism vanished back into the spirit world. This would also make more sense than the crap whoever gets the job will end up cranking out.
I’m proud to officially announce my candidacy for the office of Dogcatcher.
Love it Tom haha The beaver line was right on the mark! God bless you!
