Myth of the 20th Century: Catholic Power in the American Empire

The Catholic Church has for centuries stood as a center of power and influence throughout the world, with a reach today of over 1 billion members. In America, the influence of the Church rose most significantly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the waves of Catholic European immigrants, much to the chagrin of the WASP and increasingly Jewish elites. They reacted by placing immigration restrictions in 1924, and social engineering programs promoting birth control and breaking up ethnic Catholic neighborhoods. After the tumult of the 1960s, the Church began fighting a rear guard battle that to this day still places it on the defense against progressive culture warriors on issues such as homosexuality and abortion.
